THE CABIN
Apparently I Own a Cabin Now
At some point in middle age, normal people buy a sensible vehicle, take up golf, or start caring way too much about their lawn.
I bought a cabin in the mountains.
Because apparently I looked at my already-busy life and thought, You know what this needs? Property maintenance.
But I will admit, I may have accidentally made a pretty great decision.
The cabin sits on about 1.5 private acres in the mountains outside Eureka Springs, Arkansas, surrounded by trees, quiet, and enough separation from humanity that you can temporarily pretend nobody has your phone number.
Inside, you’ve got:
Two bedrooms
1.5 bathrooms
A full kitchen
Cedar-lined log cabin walls
Washer and dryer, because eventually somebody has to be responsible
Plenty of room to sit around doing absolutely nothing
Outside is where things get considerably better.
There’s a private hot tub, breathtaking mountain views, woods all around you, and the kind of peace and quiet that makes you realize how unnecessarily loud the rest of the world has become.
And somehow, despite feeling like you’re hiding in the mountains, you’re still less than five minutes from downtown Eureka Springs, so you can go eat, drink, shop, wander around, look at weird stuff, and then retreat back to the cabin before you’ve had too much interaction with strangers.
Branson is also roughly 50 minutes away, if you’re feeling ambitious.
Or you can stay at the cabin.
Sit in the hot tub.
Drink coffee on the front porch.
Look at the trees.
Ignore your responsibilities.
That’s probably what I’d do.
And yes, before somebody inevitably asks in the comments…
You can actually stay here.
I’ve put it on Airbnb.
You don’t have to rent it.
I’m not going to pressure you.
Frankly, I’m perfectly happy sitting in the hot tub myself.
But I also didn’t want to own a really cool cabin in Eureka Springs, never tell any of you about it, and then spend the next six months reading comments saying:
“WAIT… WE COULD HAVE RENTED THAT?!”
So there.
You’ve been informed.
Come stay if you want.
Or don’t.
Just don’t yell at me later.
